A 53-year-old man from Merseyside has been arrested after driving into a crowd of supporters celebrating Liverpool's Premier League title win.

    It may have been a rainy day in Liverpool, but that did not stop hundreds of thousands from lining the streets to celebrate their Premier League title triumph. During the open-top bus parade, a car drove into a group of pedestrians, prompting a huge emergency response from police.

    According to reports from the BBC, a 53-year-old man from Merseyside has been arrested at the scene but it remains unclear whether he is the driver of the vehicle.

    The Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented on the tragic incident, saying: "My thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident."

    The area has been cordoned off while police continue their investigation into what happened. There is no word yet on how many have been injured due to the collision. A statement from the authorities read: "We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre.
    We were contacted at just after 18:00 today, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street.
    The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained.
    Emergency services are currently on the scene"
